Winery Tenuta San Luciano, Monte San Savino, Tuscany

Tenuta San Luciano and its village have distant origins.

An extraordinarily fertile land, the products of which were already very well known in ancient times along the way which was to become the Roman Cassia road.
Winery Tenuta San Luciano, Monte San Savino

The position, the residential settlement and the archaeological findings show how the com- mon historical matrix has here proved a more striking and topical feature.

Located in a do- minant position, surrounded by woods and "cavalpoggio" cultivations which are arranged over the top of the hills and which were already extensive in the 17th century, San Luciano has a small Church with a beautiful and precious Altar painting representing the Madonna with child.

From the top of the hill, along rows of cypress trees, the view reaches a fountain of the Garibaldi period, built in 1866. The Ziantoni family, who have been working in the wine field since the beginning of the 19th century, moved in 1972, following Ovidio Ziantoni's decision, from the Latium hills to those, which are nothing less in generosity and harmony, to Toscany and purchased the San Luciano property.

The firm which covers an area of about 100 hectares, is located in the relaxing hills of Monte San Savino (Arezzo) and is within the Valdichiana D.o.c. (Controlled origin) wine area.

It is well served by an excellent road network (A1 and E78).

The vineyards of Winery Tenuta San Luciano, Monte San Savino, Tuscany, all planted on the same piece of land, have a privileged southern exposure with hillsides with a special type of earch mixture and which are excellently ventilated, situated at an altitude of 300/330 metres above sea level. During the years, the firm has continued to spread, with the help of the sons, Marco and Stefano, by planting new vineyards.

Today these vineyards cover an area of about 60 hectares with species of grapevines such as Sangiovese , Merlotand Cabernet for red wines and Trebbiano, Chardonnay, Grechetto and Vermentino for white wines.

These species of grapevines make it possible to improve and structure the wines produced, also in consideration of the grapes controlled production, approx. 7/8tons per hectare, obtained with "green prunings", always keeping in mind the characteristics and tipes of the great Tuscany wines, thanks to the advanced equipment and tecnologies which the firm currently avails of, under the expert direction of the Oenologist, Fabrizio Ciufoli.

Wine making, in fact, is effected at controlled temperature: there are special cellars where wines are let mature in French oak casks and controlled temperature cellars where this process is completed in bottles.
